I have been researching my Whiting
ancestors for over 15 years and whilst
the Australian family is well documented,
the Whitings in Kent remain elusive. If
you believe you are related, please get in

Jonathan Whiting was convicted in Kent and transported to
Van Diemen's Land where he arrived in Hobart Town at the
end of 1823. He was 18 years old.
By age 28 he had been sent to the Port Arthur Penal

The story of Jonathan Whiting is a complete adventure - a young man
rebels against the treatment given him and fights the colonial penal
system for thirteen years. Then, when he meets a good woman his life
is transformed and he settles to become a model husband, father and
citizen. He was part of the establishment of Australia through two of our
most famous colonial towns but he died in tragic circumstances.
